From Rockford, Illinois, where they live, their journey together has been filled with moments of laughter, growth, and shared dreams. But it was one particular trip to Tennessee that became the unforgettable chapter of their love story.

🌄 The Engagement at Clingmans Dome

For her 30th birthday, Leslie had an adventurous idea. One evening, just before falling asleep, she turned to Matthew and said: “Why don’t we wake up at 3 a.m. and drive to Clingmans Dome to see the sunrise?”

Clingmans Dome, the highest point of the Smoky Mountains, had only just reopened a few days earlier, with snow and ice still glistening at the peaks. Matthew agreed, and the next morning, he drove Leslie and her girls through winding mountain roads, climbing higher and higher into the sky.

The drive itself was both breathtaking and nerve-wracking, impossibly high, two hours of anticipation, and nature’s beauty on full display. Finally, they arrived. Leslie asked Matthew to pull over so she could take a picture. In her mind, it was just a moment to capture the view, a simple selfie against the backdrop of snowy peaks.

But Matthew had other plans. He stepped out, got down on one knee, and with the mountains as their witness, asked Leslie to be his wife.

“I thought I was just taking a selfie,” Leslie recalls with a smile. Instead, she captured the moment her life changed forever.
